What is a Workplace Mental Health First Aid Training?

Mental Health First Aid is the first care delivered to anyone whom you find to be displaying unusual behaviours or early signs of a mental health crisis, while expert help is still unavailable.

In the context of work, MHFA can be trained by employees from accredited sources to be adept in responding to each other’s emotional needs and those of their valued customers.

Importance of Workplace MHFA

There are workplaces where employees are greatly exposed to psychological hazards just as much as injuries to physical health. Think firefighters, emergency room nurses, police forces, and calamity response teams. Seeing disastrous events and sudden deaths is inevitable in their professions, thus they must develop skills to support each other and keep their mental health in check.

This is an extreme scenario where workplace Mental Health First Aid can be found useful. However, even office employees who experience overwhelming stress and massive life changes that spur moments of sadness can be assisted by MHFA. We’ll never know when a colleague is dealing with a personal crisis that could affect both their well-being and work performance, so it helps to have a mental health resource you could pull out whenever.

MHFA Blended Learning and Teaching Methods

In acknowledgement of the current climate where work-from-home set-up and remote learning are taking centre stage, we’ve created a Mental Health First Aid Training that allows you to learn effectively at your own time, place, and pace.

It’s popularly called blended learning.

A mix of synchronous session and self-paced module activities, the blended method provides a comfortable alternative to the traditional face-to-face classroom environment. Here, trainees will meet with our instructor via Zoom conference calls for initial lectures and sessions that require active engagement such as consultations and Q&A segments. This will allow them to share their thoughts or clarify certain points in the lecture in real-time.

As for the rest of the training activities, they will be pursued outside the virtual classroom and are self-paced. Meaning— instructional materials are provided in an e-learning platform for the trainee to access any time he/she is available. Trainees also have the freedom to control the amount of information they consume at a time and the duration of their studying. This mode is perfect for individuals with a jam-packed schedule or those who learn best in the absence of social pressure

Mental health is a matter of great importance, deserving of careful thought and deliberation. At WHS & Training Compliance Solutions Pty Ltd, we consider mental health first aid as a crucial life-support skill due to the range of crisis scenarios it can help address; from depression to panic attacks, anxiety, self-injury, etc.blended online mental health first aid training
